... as a result of a truly last-minute decision. I joined my crazy workmate and friend who goes by the English name of Ring (and is, at times, as scary as the character
Sadako from
Ring, the film) and had no idea what to expect. I had been told we were going to see an punk/electro band, and was prepared to have a mildly amusing time seeing something perfectly average. How wrong had I been! Xin Kuzi, or New Pants in English, are a snazzy three-man outfit and sound like a mixture of The Blue Hearts, Kraftwerk and The Killers, with a bit of Daft Punk and a lot of, well, New Pants thrown in. Their show was refreshingly original and hilariously entertaining, and their keyboarder is a madman in his own sense (to see what I mean, watch
this video, then imagine him doing the same things, except at twice the speed and with ten times more energy).
And if you think Chinese people are timid, shy or otherwise unable to rock it, please refer to the below pictures to convince yourself otherwise.
A great night all in all- you know the concert was good if you leave drenched in sweat, beer and, in my case, a bit of Vodka too, I think.
Why all the American students at the gig had the same sheep-like mass of curly hair on their heads, however, will remain a mystery.
Bis dann,
Nadine
