The joys of piracy

It is commonly known that media piracy is thriving in China. Despite government efforts to curb the copying of movies and DVDs by their thousands, you will find cheap fakes on every corner. (I haven’t personally, but believe me, I’m very much intending to find them.) A lesser-known fake-DVD delight is the complete and utter randomness of the covers. Whether it’s the picture of a completely different movie, an eclectic mix of languages used or simply a staggeringly high typo count, a pirated cover will spice up even the most boring movie experience.

Without further comment I now present to you the text found on the back of my colleague’s pirated copy of Wong Kar-wai’s In The Mood for Love, one of my personal favourites. If you don’t know what the film is about, do have a very quick read or peek- it will only enhance piracy pleasure. Spelling and spacing have been adapted 100% from the “original”.
