So here I am, freshly back from Shenyang, and there's no electricity in my flat. For my building the power comes from a pre-paid card, the last tone of which had run out on Sunday morning, due to my sleeping with the air conditioning on. When I left to see Himself the same day I knew I was sacrificing whatever was in the freezer, but I'd expected to be able top up as effortlessly as all the previous times. Indeed, buying a new card wasn't a problem at all, and it definitely was the right kind of card, as the little metre jumped to 100 of whatever unit of electricity it is. (Kilowatt hours? Don't really care at the moment, to be honest!)
However, it's been an hour now since I added the new dian, and nothing has happened. I'm sitting here in the heat, surrounded by a sea of tiny candles which are bound to run out my at some stage, and by an army of mosquitoes who are just waiting for the effect of that repellent to wear off. At the moment, my entire body is smelling of pharmacy, but who knows how long that'll last! At this stage, the only thing I can do is hope for the power to miraculously come back on soon.
Until then, I better save the battery on my laptop. Just my luck, wha'!
